SHORT UPDATE FROM
DR. BUNGU
JULY 2010
Greetings from Mashoko Christian Hospital. Winter has not been uncomfortable so far. Day time temperatures have been in the 60s and 70s. We have had cooler temperatures during the night.
Our work has been going well. We have been busy, though. A surprising thing has been that we have been having people dying of malaria in June and July. We have had a disproportional number of celebral malaria cases and deaths during the Winter. Usually malaria is a problem during the wet and hot season of October to April. The Ministry of Health is looking into the cause of this. AIDS continues to be a problem. More and more people are coming up on their own to be tested for the HIV virus. Many more are responding positively to our invitation to them for them to be tested. Kindly continue to pray for those living with HIV and AIDS and for us as we care for them. Three weeks ago, one of our senior students pricked himself with a needle he had used on a patient with HIV. We have him covered with antiretrovirals.
In june we had 1 baptism and 6 who restored their faith. Even though we had one chaplain in June, he managed to follow up on 2 patients in their homes on the motorcycle. He also, in conjunction with the Mashoko Church of Christ Minister, Mr. Ngerume, visited 12 of our hospital staff in their homes. One of them, Sr. Maporisa gave herself to the Lord. She is yet to be baptized. May you continue to pray for us as we preach the Gospel through our hospital.
Dr. and Mrs. Masinire (Dr. Kudzai Masinire is the other doctor I work with) were blessed with a baby girl two weeks ago. Her name is Ngaakudzweishe (Let the Lord be praised). I had to do a C/Section on her for fetal distress. Both mother and baby are doing well.
We continue to thank you for the donations you made towards our wish list. The container should be about to get to Zimbabwe. We will be called to Harare to process the release of it. The duty free certificate is already in place. BUT THERE ARE THREE ITEMS OF THE WISH LIST WE WOULD LIKE TO PRAY THAT YOU HELP US WITH. These are the following:
1. PICK UP TRUCK.
We are having major problems in transport. Two of our loder pick up trucks are not on the road. They are becoming costly to maintain. We would like to sell them. We need $8000 in addition to what we may get from the sale of the two to get a good reconditioned engine pick up truck. Our outreach programs like AIDS HOME BASED CARE are suffering for l;ack of transport. KINDLY HELP!!!
2. BATTERY POWERED STANDBY POWER SYSTEM.
Our electricity continues to be erratic. Many times we go from 6 AM to 10PM without electricity. We have to turn on a diesel powered generator to do surgical operation and to do computer work. At times we get browning out in the electricity. We do not get lightning during the Winter, but we do during the rainy season. This destroys our sorely found computers. This system is found in Harare and it costs $5,332. KINDLY HELP.
3. Expectant (Pregnant) MOTHER'S SHELTER.
We continue to be the favorite hospital for women to deliver they babies. We also continue to have many of those pregnant mothers accept Christ as their Lord and Savior as they wait in these shelters for labor pains. We have 110 pregnant women crouded in rooms that should carry 40 women. We want to expand those shelters. Kindly contribute towards the $20,000 that is needed.
We have had Phil Ditmer from the West Lafayette Christian Church with us from June 18. He just graduated from Purdue and is going to IU this fall for a Masters degree. He has been a great help in many areas especially in working on our computers and computerizing a lot of our information.
Also. our middle son, Tizirai (Tiz) Blessing and our grand daughter Atipaishe (the Lord has given us) arrived here a week ago. We are so happy to have them Tiz for the first time in 5 years and Atipa for the first time ever.
